AI voucher FAQ

What is the AI voucher?
It is the business artificial intelligence voucher in Plan IA360, presented by the Spanish Government on 21 September 2026. It has 600 million euros to fund AI projects that European technology companies carry out for other companies.
When can it be requested?
The plan foresees a pilot in the first half of 2027 and the general call before the end of 2027. Until the rules are published there is no date and no way to apply.
Is it a non-repayable grant?
Everything points to a grant: the plan talks about funding and subsidising, not loans. It will be paid by milestones and with conditions, such as team training. The final answer will be in the rules.
Can the self-employed apply?
The Government's press note presents it as a voucher for SMEs and the self-employed. The plan itself talks about beneficiary companies, with no size limits. It will have to be confirmed in the rules.
Can it pay for ChatGPT, Copilot or other licences?
No. The plan says the voucher will not fund mere licence subscriptions. It pays for projects that change a company process.
What do I gain by preparing now?
Reaching the call with the assessment done, the use case chosen and the starting point measured. And if the project pays for itself, there is no need to wait for the grant.
